Lavil Okap – for orchestra

About the work

“Lavil Okap” ( Haitian Creole for the City of Cap-Haïtien ) was composed for the 2020 Haitian Orchestra Institute to commemorate the city’s 350 years since its founding and 200 years since the death of Haiti’s first and last king, Henri Christophe.

On April 1, 2023, “Lavil Okap” received its long-awaited premiere in front of the historic cathedral of Cap-Haïtien,
brought to life by the 2023 Haitian Orchestra Institute’s gifted musicians, conducted by Sydney Guillaume.
